“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday did not rule out impeaching President Donald Trump or Attorney General William Barr if the Senate tries to push through a Supreme Court nomination during a lame-duck session if Joe Biden wins the November election.” – CNBC News
Just when you thought our politicians couldn’t slip deeper into what has become a “Swamp” of fermenting sewage and toxic waste. How could the leader of the House of Representatives, one of the two chambers of our Legislative Branch of government make such a strange statement?
One has to ask if Speaker Pelosi has legal standing to impeach President Trump for nominating a replacement justice for the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Let’s consult the U.S. Constitution, the basis for our law and look at some of the duties of the President of the United States:
Article II, Section 2, Clause 2:
He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments. –
So, any president has the Constitutional Right and Responsibility to appoint judges of the supreme court. It is the Senate’s job to provide advice and consent (or not) to the appointment.
Charges: Speaker Pelosi is apparently threatening to charge President Trump for complying with the US Constitution. She is trying to interfere with his job responsibilities and duties.
Verdict: It appears that Nancy Pelosi is the one who should be investigated for possible impeachment, not President Trump. I wonder how long Moderate Democrats will standby and tolerate the strange behavior of their Speaker? Is it time for them to choose a new leader of the House?
