Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden favors gun control measures. Some of his policy ideas restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens as well of the rights of states to allow for the proper training of armed teachers.
The bold and italicized words are quotes from the Joe Biden website, referenced below. I have placed my comments inside parentheses:
…Biden will also use his executive authority to ban the importation of assault weapons.
As president, Biden will pursue legislation to regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act.
(Their common definition of “assault weapons” has in the past included certain semi-automatic pistols and shotguns. Keep in mind that fully automatic firearms such as machine guns already require a special federal license to purchase.)
Buy back the assault weapons and high-capacity magazines already in our communities.
(It used to be that any magazine over 10 rounds (bullets) was restricted. California and some other states still restrict this. Please tell me the difference if a mass shooter has a 20 round magazine in a 9mm pistol, 2 10 round magazines, a six-shot 44 caliber revolver, or a 12 gauge pump shotgun?)
Biden supports legislation restricting the number of firearms an individual may purchase per month to one.
(So, if I want to purchase 2 hunting rifles, a handgun and a rifle, etc. within 30 days, I am considered a criminal?)
Biden will enact legislation prohibiting an individual “who has been convicted of a misdemeanor hate crime, or received an enhanced sentence for a misdemeanor because of hate or bias in its commission” from purchasing or possessing a firearm.
(Define a misdemeanor crime of hate or bias? What if someone gets arrested for peacefully protesting on private property? How about trespassing, at a civil rights demonstration? What if a person’s choice or written or verbal language is considered by someone as inappropriate. What if it is considered a minor misdemeanor? Are they then labeled as a threat to society? )
Biden will enact legislation to prohibit all online sales of firearms, ammunition, kits, and gun parts.
(Goodbye Cabela’s, Scheels, and a number of Sporting Goods Retailers. In many cases, you already have to physically purchase the firearm in the store or through a licensed firearms dealer. Ammunition – generally, you have to provide ID at the time of purchase or when the item is delivered. Some of the military exchanges sell ammunition and gun parts to active duty military, retirees, and Veterans. Doesn’t Joe Biden trust us?)
Biden believes we should work to eventually require that 100% of firearms sold in the U.S. are smart guns.
(One fo the reasons for purchasing a firearm is for self-defense. What if a husband and wife (or same-sex spouses), need to access a firearm if an armed intruder breaks into their dwelling? if you get a firearm that is DNA matched to the other partner then the gun may be useless. What if one partner wants to target shoot or hunt with their spouses firearm? More importantly, how will that stop some crazed individual from using their own gun to commit a crime?)
Biden will pass legislation requiring firearm owners to store weapons safely in their homes.
(As a gun owner, I understand that loaded firearms should not be accessible to children, guests, or criminals. However, what if there is only the homeowner present. Shouldn’t they be able to quickly retrieve a firearm in an emergency? Will this forbid homeowners from having their firearms in their possession on their property?
Biden supports barring states from using federal dollars to arm or train educators to discharge firearms.
(Some states already allow educators to carry a concealed firearm if they possess certain state mandated training. That is a decision left up to the states, as are concealed carry permits, police certification and firearms training requirements, as well as security guard training and certification. Do you want joe Biden to restrict available funding for proper firearms training of educators?)

As a Veteran, former law enforcement officer, and experienced gun owner, I beg to differ with Biden’s approach to gun violence. Restricting firearms ownership is like restricting or banning automobiles. How are they related?
Drunk Drivers kill! Cars are the weapons.
Criminals kill! Firearms are the weapons.
How do you feel?
