Fond memories of Sunday afternoons,
watching NFL Football games on the set.
We cheered together, we sighed as well,
hoping that our expectations were met.
Bart Starr and the first Super Bowl,
Broadway Joe and the Steel Curtain.
With every game and new season,
win or lose, fan satisfaction certain.
The years have advanced, my dad passed,
but the game hasn’t changed just the faces.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are World Champs,
there is a plethora of talent in many places.
Stillness beside me on a faded couch,
past memories haunt me at times.
Sometimes a mere feeling of sadness,
at game’s end, when the clock chimes.
How can we have recollections that comfort,
while at the same time make us pause?
No one else will fill the void left by death,
conflicting emotions is the root cause.
Yet, I still turn on a Sunday game,
I remain a dedicated football fan.
For the joy of this American tradition,
is the key for this stubborn old man.
