After a long wait, Star Trek Discovery, Season 3, premiered today. With mounting anticipation, I turned on my TV to see how the Coronavirus would affect the third millennium.
Instead of mask wearing characters, I was welcomed by a Star Trek mission, with shades of Black Panther and Star Wars. As I witnessed the introduction of a character of a “copy” of Hans Solo, in a ship not unlike a more high tech model of the Millenium Falcon, I was in familiar territory for a Star Wars fan. Even the smuggler’s furry friend, reminded of Hans Solo’s associate Chewbacca, but much smaller. Let’s see, a smuggler being pursued? I wonder if George Lucas feels robbed?
While, I have followed Star Trek since my younger days, watching Captain James Kirk and Mr. Spock explore the universe, I don’t like when their universe intrudes into that of the “Empire.” I hope that I won’t hear Darth Vader saying that he is the “father” of anyone in the Discovery crew.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy almost anything Star Trek, but this series seems to be hitching itself to another “Galaxy, far, far away.”
