Is Twitter the Problem?

Unless you are a loyal viewer of one of the more Liberal, leftist bias news media, you probably heard the story about a report from a New York area newspaper regarding Hunter Biden. This is hardly new as President Trump and the GOP have been telling us that Joe and Hunter Biden have ties to Ukraine and China. Whether the reported laptop is a “smoking gun,” is for someone else’s blog. The real threat is our reliance or should I say, obsession with social media websites such as Twitter.

When I was in High School, I wrote for two small town newspapers. My last year of High School, I also did some short-term work as a Sports Reporter for another local paper. Until recently, I have always respected journalists and the reliability of newspapers and broadcast news. Maybe, growing up watching Walter Cronkite reinforced that feeling.

Today, we are bombarded by 24 hour news networks and social media sites. Some of these sites are geared towards posting and sharing family pictures and others are a public forum for sharing your opinion and posting articles from other sites. Unfortunately, you can do so anonymously. Are these social media sites reliable or purely an outlet for gossip and “fake news?”

In my opinion, the problem is not what is posted on the social media sites, it is the for very existence of the sites themselves. They have become a platform for bad-mouthing people and sharing articles that may be factual or simply gossip. What used to be editorial in nature has now become an opportunity to use slanderous, degrading, and often untrue material to create hate and discontent. The reliability of attached “news” articles is left to the imagination.

Our dear country has become more divided than perhaps during the Civil War. Compromise and mutual respect has sunken to this lowest level. Is it a contest to see who can become the darkest, most disgusting creature in Hell? The problem is lack of respect, absence of learning how to properly research materials, conducting fact-checking, and the desire to be the most popular, even if they spew garbage.

I wish President Trump, and the rest of our politicians would close their social media accounts. Perhaps, celebrities could do the same. Let’s leave social media to those who wish to talk with their friends and not use it as a chance to attack each other. Again, that is my opinion. As for the Hunter Biden story, who knows. The whole matter should be left up to the FBI to sort out. Peace.

Some might call me a Conservative others a Moderate. My core beliefs: 1) Christian 2) Republican 3) Pro First and Second Amendments 4) Our country is not racist, neither are most people. Unfortunately, there is hate and distrust among individuals of all colors. New laws, violent protests, and arguing will not solve anything. We must change the heart. 5) Legalize marijuana. There are those who have no other alternative to relieve pain, especially among our disabled, ill, and disabled Veterans. 6) Jesus Christ will return sooner than we expect. (Just my belief)
