Buttigieg as Biden’s VA Secretary?

“[Pete Buttigeg has] also been mentioned as a contender for secretary of Veterans Affairs.” – New York Magazine – Intelligencer, Oct 23, 2020.

“Buttigieg, the former South Bend, Ind., mayor and presidential contender, is seen as a likely choice for ambassador to the United Nations or secretary of Veterans Affairs.” – Politico, Aug 21, 2020

“Should BUTTIGIEG get V.A. secretary?” – Politico, Oct 13, 2020

“Buttigieg ran for president as a wildly underqualified 38-year-old, so he obviously has big ambitions. He’s recently been deploying his “go on television constantly” political strategy as a Biden surrogate and has won praise even from former detractors in that role, helping to bolster his case for a bigger role than VA secretary.” – Vox, Oct 15, 2020

Mayor Pete Buttigieg for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs? What is Joe Biden’s team thinking? As a Disabled Veteran, I rely on the VA for medical care as well as Disability Compensation for my service-connected injuries. Like thousands and thousands of other Veterans, I want a leader for the VA who wants the job. After reading the above quote in Vox, I wonder why Jose Biden would even consider Buttigeg for such a responsible and important position. “A bigger role then VA Secretary?” That isn’t the attitude for someone seeking to serve his country and the Veteran community. I can’t think of a cabinet position with more responsibility to our heroes than maybe the Secretary of Defense. But again, those currently on military active and reserve duty will someday be Veterans themselves.

Considering the media frenzy last year of the problems with then Mayor (Pete) of South Bend and his police force, one wonders how he would do serving our military heroes.

There are so many qualified candidates for VA Secretary, so I wonder if the motivation behind the movement to appoint a Biden cabinet VA Secretary named Pete Buttigeg is being tossed around for other reasons? Is it because Biden wants a “gay,” cabinet member? Reading the recent articles regarding potential cabinet picks, we see that Joe Biden seems more interested in a “diverse” cabinet instead of a highly qualified one. Choosing someone because they are a certain color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. is racism. Isn’t true inclusion treating people the same, regardless of their differences? Why then should one give preference based on how someone looks or their sexual orientation, rather than their qualifications?

If possible cabinet picks like Pete Buttigeg are being considered to show the nation that Joe Biden is inclusive, then we are setting the standard for treating people differently based on their physical attributes or sexual orientation. A major step back for a man and political party who give lip service to true change.

Some might call me a Conservative others a Moderate. My core beliefs: 1) Christian 2) Republican 3) Pro First and Second Amendments 4) Our country is not racist, neither are most people. Unfortunately, there is hate and distrust among individuals of all colors. New laws, violent protests, and arguing will not solve anything. We must change the heart. 5) Legalize marijuana. There are those who have no other alternative to relieve pain, especially among our disabled, ill, and disabled Veterans. 6) Jesus Christ will return sooner than we expect. (Just my belief)
