It’s Wednesday, the day after the election. Pending some miracle, it looks like former VP Joe Biden will prevail. The polls were wrong, predicting Biden with a sometimes double-digit nationwide lead. The people have spoken and now it is time to try to make sense of another contested race. My observations of the total results seem to suggest:
- Our election system is broken. We need a uniform voting process and the same deadlines for mail-ins, voting locations, overseas votes, and counting deadlines. All ballots should be counted at the same setting.
- We have two different ideologies with a single country, shown clearly in some geographical areas (Conservatives and Liberals).
- Hispanics/Latinos appear to be shifting their support towards the GOP.
- The criteria for casting a vote appears to have been on candidate likeability, not the issues.
As evening arrives, we are now faced with threats of election fraud and lawsuits. It is a bit suspect that on Election night, President Trump has a good lead in all of the remaining battleground states only to lose some by morning.
As we wait for the final tallies and possible court filings, one has to wonder if the losing side will accept the winner as legitimate. I think probably…NOT!
May God have mercy on our troubled nation.
