The Confederate States of America (CSA), did manage to produce one good idea concerning the election of a president. The winner could only serve one, six-year term. Since the Civil War lasted less than that, we will never know if the concept worked.
The whole re-election process for President is a waste of money and time. It seems that the incumbent is already running for re-election one to two years before the end of their term. In addition, it is difficult to implement solid policies in four years and the second term is often nothing more than a lame duck session.
If we would change the US Constitution and implement true election change, we could mimic the policy of the CSA and call for a single six-year term for president. I believe that would save us all a great deal of grief. With one term, the president would have six years to run the country and then have a solid end date without any chance of a re-election and endless campaigning, recounts, lawsuits, and name calling.
Please contact your elected representatives in Federal and State government and tell them how you feel. We must do something to end this election nightmare.
