U.S. Martial Law?

**

(This is a speculative piece. I do not endorse any policy or action that is in violation of the law.)

The news is full of stories of President Trump reportedly toying with the idea of martial law to investigate fraud in the 2020 Elections. If this media coverage is fake news then we can dismiss it. But, what if it is true? Should the president declare martial law in the United States?

As a Veteran and former law enforcement officer, I can hardly imagine a scenario where our military had to take control over the civilian government. That is like unleashing the Kraken on innocent villagers.

If, it is true that Joe Biden has proven illegal ties to China and that Communist nation and other “hostile” countries have interfered in the elections, maybe an appropriate course of action needs to be undertaken. First, the president would have to be sure that all Constitutional remedies had been exhausted. This might include taking fraud cases up to the U.S. Supreme Court. Some might say that Congress is a safeguard against election fraud since they must certify the vote. However, they have been so partisan that a Coronavirus relief bill has been delayed for months. Congress is too divided to address election fraud in a fair and just way.

So, martial law is an option but a risky one. If the military was to take control of voting machines in disputed states and investigate vote manipulation complaints, how would we know that this would be done in a fair and just way? What if the military helped hold another election in swing states? Is the military equipped to arrange and monitor an election? Would they be bias for their current Commander-in-Chief?

How would President-Elect Joe Biden and the Democrats in Congress respond?

If ordered, would generals, admirals, and the military as a whole follow the orders of President Trump to initiate military dominance over civil government control? All military members at their swearing in ceremony take an oath to “defend and support the Constitution…” They also agree to follow the lawful orders of their superiors, including the president.

Finally, if martial law was declared, what would the people do? Would a large number support the president or the president-elect. Would National Guard units, state militia’s, and police back the federal troops?

What would seem impossible and unrealistic a year ago, might be closer to reality. The Coronavirus, civil unrest, political divide, and loss of confidence in our elections have changed our daily life in a negative way. Some believe they have been forgotten by the government,

Whether it be civil war, martial law, or continued political division the people of this nation must decide how they will respond. Do we hide in our basements, petition our elected representatives, peacefully protest, or support an unconstitutional action? Hopefully, cooler and wiser heads would prevail. I believe most people would need to see proof of widespread, unlawful interference in the elections before any unusual actions would be considered.

We will never experience true fairness and justice from human leaders. Only God is perfect, just, and all-knowing. We need to put our faith and trust in Him!

God Bless the USA!

Some might call me a Conservative others a Moderate. My core beliefs: 1) Christian 2) Republican 3) Pro First and Second Amendments 4) Our country is not racist, neither are most people. Unfortunately, there is hate and distrust among individuals of all colors. New laws, violent protests, and arguing will not solve anything. We must change the heart. 5) Legalize marijuana. There are those who have no other alternative to relieve pain, especially among our disabled, ill, and disabled Veterans. 6) Jesus Christ will return sooner than we expect. (Just my belief)
